F.A.Q

Beta Bowl, The Game is a fun, educational, interactive game that simulates real-world business-building, growing, selling, and acquiring through a multi-player, multi-industry journey. The game encompasses various aspects of entrepreneurship, finance, budgeting, resource management, strategy, a bit of real-life chance and luck (some good, some bad), and the intercompany relationships that CEOs and investors face when building their empires.

Beta Bowl, The Game is for EVERYONE interested in a unique, immersive, challenging, exciting, and surprising interactive experience that will sprinkle bits of educational knowledge along the way, as players build, grow, sell, and acquire businesses, take stock of their cash and other assets, and make strategic decisions in the face of opportunities and adversity. Beta Bowl, The Game seamlessly interweaves sophisticated business-building concepts in a player-friendly manner, broken down into plain language, that results in players learning through the experiential hands-on process of game play.

No! The game is designed for everyone, regardless of knowledge level, experience, and background. Game play alone seamlessly introduces these business, finance, and startup-related concepts through chance scenarios, player decision-making, and the digital score card, that reveals the value of each player’s businesses, resources, and cash. Even the math behind company valuations is handled by the preprogrammed digital score card, though players who are interested may dig into the mechanics of this score card, read the additional information provided, or reach out to our team to further explore the math behind the values.

The game is designed for a maximum of 6 players and a minimum of 2 players. That said, the more players, the more interesting the scenarios and decision-making may become, as more industries are fragmented among multiple players and a trade or acquisition may more likely take place.

Great question – this depends! This depends on a variety of factors, including the number of players, the path chosen, and the successful outcome chosen for a winning player. In regards to those last two (path chosen and winning outcome), those are two additional pieces of variability that players have the option to decide upon. Players can opt for a more or less challenging game, and a shorter or longer game, depending on which path around the board they decide to take and which winning outcome they agree upon before beginning the game. That said, the game will likely last most players a few hours.

Another great question! As you may know, Beta Bowl is primarily an educational entrepreneurship company, teaching and incubating aspiring future entrepreneurs (and possibly some future venture capitalists, too!). However, we strongly believe that entrepreneurial knowledge and experiential, hands-on learning and decision-making should not be reserved to those who decide to dedicate their life and career to building businesses. It also shouldn’t be reserved for those enrolled in university business or MBA programs. The concepts around building, buying, and selling companies should be widely understood and conveyed to all interested, curious people, and they should be taught in an entertaining, accessible, experiential manner. THAT is why we created Beta Bowl, The Game. We’ve also been inundated with requests from people of all ages (adults, college students, parents of elementary school children, etc.) for additional offerings, and we’ve wanted to be thoughtful about creating something both fun and educational, that transcends age, background, knowledge level, and industry expertise…so, Beta Bowl, The Game was born!

This one is our favorite question! It’s a very interesting story, but the short version goes like this: we have some brilliant current and former students, and we’ve been lucky enough to hire some of them to consult on, test, and help develop new products…and Beta Bowl, The Game is just one example of that.

If you want the longer version, here you go: Beta Bowl was in the process of engaging some game developers, with a decent concept of the topics, learning points, chance, and strategy we wanted included in a game. However, we simultaneously hired on three interns (who happened to be former students, top performers, and entrepreneurs themselves, who had won over $15k+ in business and pitch competitions, created impressive tech products (apps with 10k+ downloads, award-winning healthcare-related products, and more), gained scholarships to impressive university business, finance, tech, and entrepreneurship programs, and who were looking to make a real difference. We started their internship off with a two-page word document with some game specifications, a few helpful links, and asked them to pitch us their best ideas. Three months later, we had a robust, complex 6-player game outlined, with 6 industries, 18 companies, 32 events, 11 individual scenarios, 120 resources, and a great reason to forego the outside developer.

Co-Authors on this game include Arun Eswara (Lead Developer and original Concept Contributor), Srihari Manoj (Strategy Analyst), and Varun Muthu (Visual Design Consultant)

A Note From Our Founder

Hi, I’m Rachel Greenberg – a Wall Street investment banker turned full-time entrepreneur and startup consultant. I’ve been working with startups for the past decade, and I’ve helped create and implement marketing strategies, investor pitch decks, and rebranding campaigns that have collectively reached millions of customers, earned millions+ in funding, and generated tens of millions of dollars in revenue. (A few of them got acquired for 7 and 8 figure valuations in the past few years, and one got a deal on Shark Tank, and a couple have been featured in the Oprah Magazine!)

My story in a nutshell:

  • » Business degree in finance + entrepreneurship from UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School
  • » Began my career at JP Morgan, Piper Jaffray, & Wells Fargo
  • » Co-founded a college-geared company that exited in 2016
  • » Hired my former co-founders as the development team on my second company, which I sold to an operator-investor 3 years later
  • » Solo-founded and launched 3 different digital companies in 1 year
  • » Built the Zero-to-60 digital business accelerator program to help first-time entrepreneurs go from idea to business in 60 days
  • » Created Beta Bowl as an educational enrichment program to introduce entrepreneurship to driven teens and future founders

Learning from Feedback

After hosting Beta Bowl focus groups with live sessions for students all over the country and running the program by university business majors and professors, I got 2 pieces of feedback.

1) The current business students WISHED they had this program back when they were in high school, and

2) this is a program that would look great and be a huge differentiator for candidates on college applications and resumes.

Results – A Robust, Hands-on Program

We took that feedback, along with the suggestions from our focus group students, and created a program that gives students a robust, hands-on learning (and DOING) experience, gives them an IMPRESSIVE differentiator to include on their resumes and college applications, and gives them a unique custom recommendation letter that sets them apart and highlights their particular growth, progress, and achievement building their own business in the Beta Bowl program.

I’ve founded and continue to run a handful of businesses day-to-day, but Beta Bowl is one I’m most proud of, as I believe we have the potential to make the largest impact on the entire generation of future entrepreneurs, business people, leaders, and change-makers. This program is for EVERYONE, and I can’t wait to get it into the hands of as many motivated teens as possible.”
